2022 Texas Open Schedule Released

2022 Texas Open Schedule Released

Brian Radichel

The schedule has been released for the 2022 Texas Open, which will be held from April 29 through May 1 in Fort Worth, Texas. This schedule continues the use of USA Floorball’s national club ranking system, which was successfully tested at the 2021 US Nationals in Birmingham.

This system ranks clubs on their performance over the past two years in major national tournaments where at least 5 clubs participate. Teams are ranked on the basis of their average finishing spot, with a small bonus for competing. This way, teams that travel frequently to test their skills against other clubs are rewarded for their travel, but the primary ranking is derived from their performance.

As of today, the current top ten clubs in the US are:

1 Menlo Park FC
2 Chicago
3 NTFA 1
4 Utah
5 SoCal
6 Austin
7 Colorado
8 USA Men’s U19
9 NTFA 2
10 Fresno

Eleven clubs signed up for the Texas Open, which is the largest field to ever compete in the four-year history of the tournament. This year’s slate of teams also features three national teams (Women and two Men’s U19) as well as a team from Canada. This also means that the Men’s WFC North American Qualifier should have one of the largest fan attendances in US history!

Using the above rankings, the eleven clubs were seeded into two divisions. The higher Division A features the top 5 registered clubs, and they will play a full round robin against each other. The lower Division B holds the remaining six clubs in two pools. Each club will play their two pool-mates as well as the equal seed in the opposite pool.

At the end of the round robin portion, Division A will be seeded into the championship bracket in their order of finish. Division B will then play off for the remaining 3 seeds. Sunday’s bracket will be a straight 8-team bracket, with the quarterfinal losers finishing in seed order.

The final division breakdown is as follows. National club ranking (if in top 10) precedes the club name.

Division A

2 Chicago
3 NTFA
4 Utah
6 Austin
8 MU19

Division B

9 NTFA-B
10 Fresno
USA Women
Chicago Mad Dogs
Canada Selects
MU19-B
