Former MVBL team Grand Falls Cataracts captured the Intermediate Provincials Sept 5-7 held in Fredericton. The last game Saturday and the Final was played amid showers and heavy downpours. Grand Falls won the right to play in the finals against runner up Tracadie Aigles and won the final 9-6. I was at the game on Saturday for the 1-0 Grand Falls victory over Tracadie. The eventual winning run was scored in the top of the first when GF leadoff Y Levesque lead off with a single and he was erased on a fielder's choice 4-6 and the throw from Tracadie's SS eluded first baseman Zach Benoit allowing Mathieu Moreau to end up on second base. After a groundout by Z Morin (4-3), Moreau was on third and scored on a single by Alex Desjardins to left center. And that is how the score ended 1-0 with the following innings all zeros for runs. Frederic Benoit of Tracadie did very good the rest of the way scattering five hits over the other innings and zero runs. His counterpart in pitching, Jordan Drier, took control of the game and in seven innings allowed 6 hits, zero runs, with pin point control and zero walks and 5 strikeouts. Congratulations Grand Falls and to Tracadie in representing the MVBL in fine fashion. I might add Tracadie lost their All Star third baseman (Jolin Mallet) in the bottom of the first when he was hit in the face on a pickoff play at first base, and their All Star leftfielder (Jolin Benoit) was limping from an injury from the Friday night's game. Short staffed they still put up an excellent game against the champions...well done teams....Ian
