Rugby Canada would like to thank Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his public support of Ireland Rugby's bid to host the 2023 Men's Rugby World Cup.
Last November Rugby Canada publically supported Ireland’s bid to host the world’s third largest sporting event following a sold-out senior men’s test match between Canada and Ireland at AVIVA Stadium in Dublin.
"Rugby Canada is pleased to support the IRFU bid for the 2023 Rugby World Cup,” said Powers following the World Rugby Conference and Exhibition in London last year.
“While all of the bids will be of high quality we believe Ireland's application is truly unique and will also be of great benefit to growing our game in North America."
In July, PM Trudeau, along with wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and their young son Hadrien, visited Ireland and held talks with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in Dublin. Varadkar presented Trudeau with a jersey to thank him for his public support of Ireland’s bid.
Today, Trudeau took to Twitter to once again voice his support as the final three nations – Ireland, France and South Africa – officially presented their bids to World Rugby earlier this week in London.
Here’s hoping the luck of the Irish is on your side! #Ireland2023 #RWC2023
