This past weekend Rugby Canada’s Board of Directors, along with members of the senior management team, gathered in Toronto to discuss pertinent current and future business of the organization.
A significant focus of the weekend’s meetings was a discussion of how Rugby Canada can work to create the conditions for success of its Senior Men's XV and age-grade programs. Furthermore, Rugby Canada expects to be able to announce further measures concerning the Senior Men's XV in the coming days.
"Our board and management team are committed to doing what is necessary to not only improve how we perform on the field but throughout our operations, " said Tim Powers, Chair of the Rugby Canada Board of Directors. "We continue to listen, look at how we do things and review our operations."
Another key item that was discussed during the meeting was player welfare and safety. From injury prevention to match related discipline processes and practices, the Rugby Canada Board is unequivocal that player welfare is a priority both in intention and practice.
A full range of topics from growing the game, the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup, professional rugby, our path to the 2018 Sevens Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Olympics, commercial operations, working with our provincial partners and stakeholders were all part of the dialogue throughout the board meetings.
"This is an important time for our sport and in the life of Rugby Canada, " stated Allen Vansen, Chief Executive Officer of Rugby Canada. "Over the next year we will need to make some key strategic choices to ensure rugby in Canada can progress, develop and ultimately flourish, as we all believe it can. "
Both Powers and Vansen acknowledge and thank the board, the management team and vast Canadian rugby community for their efforts to make rugby in Canada the best it can be.
