The Battalions advanced to the Regional Silver Stick Finals with a convincing 6 to 0 victory over the TNT Tornadoes this morning. The Battalions poured it on all game long against the Tornados who were playing without their captain. The Battalions brought and intense, physical game to the Sports Village Arena and kepted up the intensity and pace throughout the game outshotting the Tornados 21 to 8.
The Tornados goal keeper played a very strong game and kept the Tornados in the game in the first period. The Battalions opened the scoring early in the second period when Kosta Kafes pounced on a loose puck scoring on a slap shot from the top of the face off circle. Nicholas Prete drew an assist on the goal. Before the period was over the Battalions added 2 more goals by Jocob O'brien and Nicholas Prete to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the 3rd period. Prete drew his second assist of the night on O'brien's goal and momments later O'brien and Boswell returned the favour by assisting on the Prete goal.
In the third period Christian Maraconda extended the lead, by converting a pass from Austin Filipe. Prete added his second of the night when he converted a nice pass from O'brien and Ryan Hodder completed the scoring converting another nice pass from Jaden Lindo.
As mentioned earlier, the Battalions came out strong and physical and maintained that intensity and pressure throughout the game. Adam Dunn preserved the shut-out managing to turn asside and smuthering all 8 shots he faced. A credit to Dunn, who did not allow any rebounds or second chances for the Tornados.
