The Brampton Battalions grounded the soaring Burlington Eagles tonight at Central Arena in Burlington, Ontario. The Eagles came prepared to play a very strong physical game. The story of the night was the Battalion netminder, Adam Dunn who was steady in goal and kept the Eagles at bay only allowing one goal in a 5 to 1 victory for the Battalions. With the Battalions clinging to a 1 goal lead early in the game, Dunn turned asside a number of shots to give the Battalions an oportunity to add to the lead and win the hockey game
The Battalions were outshot 18 to 16 in the game, however, they did managed to have some of the best scoring oportunities early in the game. The Battalions opened the scoring in the first period when Jaden Lindo steared a loose puck at towards the Eagles goal. The shot seemed to surprise the Eagles goalie and everyone watching the game as the puck slid passed the sprawling netminder. Ryan Hodder and Alexander Torresan drew asists on the play.
Inspite of some good scoring oportunities by both teams in the second period, the Battalions clinged to the one goal lead well into the 3rd priod. The Eagles answered back in the 3rd period with a goal of their own, when an Eagles forward finally broke through the tough as nails Battalions defense to score the tying goal. The 1-1 tie set the stage for an exciting 3rd period finish.
The Battalions retook the lead halfway through the 3rd period when Jacob O'brien finally broke threw the stingy Eagles defense to give the Battalions a 2-1 lead. Nicholas Prete and Brett Meiners drew assists on the goal.
Moments later, the Battalions extended their lead when Christian Maraconda converted a loose puck from Austin Filipe, just as Filipe was dumped by one of the Eagles defense to the right of the the Eagles goal.
Thirty seconds later, Lindo got his second of the night breaking in over the Eagles blue line and firing a shot past the Eagles netminder. Kosta Kafes drew an assist on the play. Moments later, the Battalions completed the scoring when Prete and Joshua Boswell combined to feed O'brien for his second goal of the night.
In a span of 3 minutes in the 3rd period, the Battalions scored 4 unanswered goals to put a strangle hold on the game. Both teams played very well.
