Bulldog Flyers 2009: UPDATED Flyers 10-year HISTORY

Summary of Flyers history since 2000-2001
1994 to 1999 -- no available documented history, but we played the first 3-4 seasons at St. Patrick's Intermediate school in a very small gym and we were always near the top of the Standings. And we made it to the overall league Finals where we lost a best-of-3 series in the 3rd game at the Belltown Dome against a powerhouse Canucks team.
2000-2001 -- after being 1st place (18-2) after the regular season, our Flyers went on to beat VSH, Penguins, Oilers (2 games) and the Aggravators (2 games) to win the overall league Championship!! Our roster that year: Forwards Mike Kay, Mike Scott, Mike Murphy (Playoff MVP), Ryan Nichol, Ange MacMillan, Jay Sinden, Craig Richer....Defencemen Mark Robinson, Steve Clermont, Chris Keech, Rob Lowe and Steve Laroche.....Goalie Marc "Rock" Laroche.
2001-2002 -- after a 2nd place (19-1) regular season finish, our Flyers in the playoffs went on to beat the Devils, Outback Hawks, and then the undefeated (22-0) Team-X (with current Flyer Mark Yeates)....but then our best-of-three Finals vs. the infamous Canucks ended in controversy -- as we never got to play the games! We had the same roster as the previous season.
2002-2003 -- After a somewhat disappointing 11-6-3 regular season, our Flyers went on in the playoffs to beat Blackout, Mustache Cowboys, Hanson Brothers (o/t), and the Jets (o/t)....then we lost 2-1 in the overall league semi-finals to the Red Wings. Roster that season: Forwards Freddy de Blois, Patty Dunnigan, Jay Sinden, Dom Coté, Scott Graham, Brad Boehme....D-men Lee Versage, Perry Spano, Craig Richer, Mark Robinson....Goalie Rick Lessard.
2003-2004 -- our Flyers had a decent regular season with a 14-5-1 record, and we went on to win our 2-night Conference Championship! Our roster that year: Forwards Patty Dunnigan, Dom Coté, Freddy de Blois, Jay Sinden, Bruce Paris, André Audet, Rich Renaud....D-men Lee Versage, Perry Spano, Mark Robinson and Craig Richer....Goalie Rick Lessard.
2004-2005 -- regular season Tuesday Division Champs with a 17-2-1 record! But I have no playoff records, although I vaguely recall a playoff disappointment after such a great regular season. Our roster that season: Forwards: Patty Dunnigan, Dom Coté, Rich Renaud, Freddy de Blois, Jay Sinden, André Audet.....D-men George Carson, Perry Spano, Mark Robinson and Craig Richer....Goalie Marc "Rock" Laroche.
2005-2006 -- after an impressive 16-3-1 regular season record, our Flyers lost in the 1st round to the upstart Young Gunz -- it was a classic game that ended 2-1 in overtime! Our roster that season: Forwards Patty Dunnigan, Jay Sinden, André Audet, Freddy de Blois, Brad Boehme, Rob Greene.....D-men George Carson, Perry Spano, Dan Rheaume, Craig Richer.....Goalie Marc "Rock" Laroche.

2006-2007 -- as the 15th seed (11-6-3) in the "Sweet Sixteen" A-Pool playoffs, our Flyers upset the previously undefeated (18-0-2) Razor's Edge (with Jamie Brown) in overtime 6-5 with rookie D-man Mike Runciman potting the OT winner!! We would lose our next Semi-Final game 5-2 vs. #1 seed Hull Volant who went on to the Finals and lost to the Young Gunz. Our roster that season: Forwards Patty Dunnigan, Rich Renaud, André Audet, Jay Sinden, Rob Marrongelli, Travis Duhaime and Colin Smith....D-men George Carson, Perry Spano, Mike Runciman, Craig Richer and Dan Rheaume....Goalie Mark Yeates.

2007-2008 was our Flyers 14th season in the now bankrupt James Patrick League. Our season was abruptly ended after game #18 of 20 as the league folded due to owing more than $90,000 in rent! We had an impressive record of 14-4 at the time and were poised to make a run in the playoffs. Our roster that season: Forwards Patty Dunnigan, Rich Renaud, Jay Sinden, and rookies Tim Suitter, Jamie Brown....D-men Craig Richer, Perry Spano, Colin Smith and Mike Runciman....Goalie Mark Yeates....and our 5 spares were Bernie Car, Bill Blair, Dom Coté, Brad Boehme and Rob Marrongelli....with Sean Frewen being our back-up goalie.
2008 OBBHA Fall Season was our first season in the Ottawa Blues Ball Hockey Association. We lost some players from before who were missed, but we were fortunate enough to fill the holes with terrific players including the return of "Rocky" Rob and Dom Coté! After an impressive 2nd place (8-1) regular season, we won our first 2 round-robin playoff games vs. two strong teams the Flames (9-3) and Road Apples (8-4), but we lost our next one badly (16-8) to the unbeaten Godfathers. We had a chance for revenge in the re-match for the Championship, but in that classic game, we lost 5-3 to the powerhouse Godfathers. Our roster that season: Forwards Jason Prevost, Rob Marrongelli, Scottie Lafrange, and Blaine Scatcherd....D-men Craig Richer, Billy Blair, Patty Dunnigan and Rich Renaud...Goalie Mark Yeates....and our spares were F/D Pat Fynn, F Dom Coté and goalie Sean Frewen.

2009 OBBHA Winter Season was our 2nd season in the OBBHA and after a very fun and successful inaugural Silver Medal season, we looked to go from Runners-Up to Champions in 2009! Well, that didn't quite work out as planned. We did finish the regular season in 2nd place (7-2 record) only behind the mighty Godfathers. But after narrowly beating the good young Orange Arrows in our first round-robin playoff game, we lost 7-5 the next week to the strong Road Apples and then lost 9-5 to the Godfathers (after being tied 4-4 with 6 mins. left to play). So we were relegated to the Bronze Medal game that we held on to win 10-9 over those feisty Orange Arrows. The only slight change to our roster this season was Pat Fynn was now officially back to full-time. The other big change was our beloved Masked Man Mark Yeates was on the shelf for the first few weeks/games to rest and rehab his injured shoulders -- the big man was missed on and off the floor, but we were fortunate enough to acquire the very capable services of goalie Pierre Laroche who did a stellar job in those first few weeks. Our roster was: Forwards Pat Fynn, Rob Marrongelli, Scottie Lafrange, and Blaine Scatcherd....F/D Jay Prevost.....D-men Craig Richer, Billy Blair, Patty Dunnigan and Rich Renaud...Goalies Pierre Laroche and Mark Yeates....and our spares were F/D Dom Coté, D Paul O'Sullivan, F Graham Spice, D Mike Runciman, F/D Colin Smith and F Jay Sinden.

THE CURRENT 2009 OBBHA Fall Season is our 19th season as a franchise that started in 1992-1993 as the "StreetHawks" in the St.Laurent Ball Hockey League. Current Flyers' Player/'Coach' D-man Craig Richer, Captain Patty Dunnigan and Pat Fynn are the only three originals from that inaugural team. There are three changes to our roster this season as we lose 2 excellent players in Rob Marrongelli and his side-kick Scottie Lafrange as Rob is putting in his own Black Eagles in our league. Also, our fearless leader Craig will be taking the season off due to injury. But the great news is 2 former beloved Flyers are back full-time in the form of F/D Colin Smith and D Bernie Car, and the infamous "TO" Terry O'Sullivan joined our team full-time. Our roster is: Forwards Rich Renaud, Jay Prevost, Blaine Scatcherd, and Terry O'Sullivan....F/D Colin Smith.....D-men Patty Dunnigan, Pat Fynn, Bernie Car, and Billy Blair...Goalie Mark Yeates....and our spares were D Paul O'Sullivan, G/D Sean Frewen, F Graham Spice, and F/D Keith Charlebois.
