What is podcasting?
Put simply, podcasting is a method of automatically distributing audio and video content over the internet.

Why is it called podcasting?
Podcasting is a mix of the words 'iPod' (Apple's popular portable mp3 player) and 'broadcasting'. However, the service is not just available to those with iPods. You can enjoy podcasts whatever your brand of mp3 player.

What equipment do I need in order to download and listen to a podcast?
To download a podcast, you just need a computer with an internet connection and a piece of podcast software which you'll need to install. Click here to see a list of software suppliers. To listen to podcast content, you'll need any brand of mp3 player or any computer with audio-playing software.

How much does it cost?

I've signed up to a podcast but I keep getting an error message. What's going wrong?
You should refer to the Help section in your podcasting application. You may also want to delete the podcast feed and re-subscribe to the service. If you are still encountering problems you may want to try installing another podcasting application. See a list of podcast software suppliers here.

I've downloaded an mp3 file but I can't hear anything on my computer. What's going wrong?
Check that you have a media player on your computer (e.g. Windows Media Player, iTunes or Real Player), that you have the sound turned up, and that your speakers or headphones are connected.

How do Mac users download the mp3 files?
Hold down the Control (ctrl) key on your keyboard while clicking on the mp3 link. You'll be presented with a menu of options. One of these options will be 'Download Link to Disk' or 'Download Linked File'. Select this option and the download will be activated. You can then browse and save to the folder of your choice.
