Competition Introduction
PURPOSE
The Competition-Introduction coaching course is Rugby Canada's introduction to the game in a "contact environment". Its purpose is to provide competitive coaches with the necessary training and education to effectively develop Training to Train and Training to Compete athletes (between the ages of 12-18) participating in high school and club rugby in Canada.
Competition Introduction Coach Pathway model
ENTRY CRITERIA
- Currently coaching high school and/or club rugby players in Canada
- Desire to coach contact rugby
- Some knowledge of the game of rugby is strongly recommended
COURSE LENGTH
- Completion of 11 Course Modules (approximately 20 hours of training)
- Delivery of the course varies by Province but typically occurs over a weekend
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- Trained in athlete development processes in Training to Train and Training to Compete stages of Athlete Development
- Trained in Making Ethical Decisions
- Trained in Planning a Practice
- Trained in Providing Support to Athletes in Training (Confidence in Contact and Safety in Rugby)
- Trained in Analyzing Performance
- Trained in Game Understanding at an intermediate level (individual and unit skills, strategies and tactics)
ACCREDITATION PROCESS
- Complete the Competition-Introduction workshop (modules)
- Submit your coaching portfolio to your Provincial Rugby Union or designated Learning Facilitator
- Complete the online Making Ethical Decisions exam
- Complete the Analyze Performance evaluation
- Undergo a practical evaluation comprised of planning a practice
