Southern NB Baseball League: SNBBL History
Interesting SNBBL History
The league was formed in the 1960's as the Kings County Baseball League with teams from Hampton, St. Martins, Sussex and Lorneville. It eventually expanded to include more teams from Saint John and eventually all the way to St. Stephen around which time (late 60's / early 70's when it changed its name name to the Southern NB Baseball League.
Art Jeffery was president from 1977 to his resignation in 2011, giving him 34 years of service in the position.
During his tenure the league produced 42 provincial championships, mostly at the Intermediate level with a few in Junior and Juvenile. The last came in 2014 when the Dieppe Cardinals captured the Int. B crown and the Moosehead Cougars won the Int. A title.
Former Major League slugger Matt Stairs played in the SNBBL in 1986.
The league has been using wood bats exsclusively since the beginning of the 2006 season when it was mandated by Baseball NB. Some teams had been using wood bats in select games the previous year.
