Associated Press game score reporting
Attention coaches/a.d.'s: I have received the following letter from Mr. Bob Brandkamp, Manager, AP Data Center regarding reporting of our game scores to the Associated Press: "Nov. 1, 2002, Dear Athletic Director: With the start of the winter sports season just around the corner, I am writing to ask you to encourage your varsity boys' and girls' basketball coaches to make arrangements to have the teams; score called into The Associated Press immediately after the completion of every game. One quick call to the AP after the game gets your teams' score to all the media in your state including daily newspapers, tv stations and most radio stations. Please emphasize to your coaches that callin in the score immediately after the game is critical in allowing the media access to your teams' score prior to their publication and broadcast deadlines. Meeting these deadlines will enable the media to get the scores out to your fams as soon as possible. Other information follows but basically is the following: To report your score call 800-300-8340. You should give this number to your varsity basketball coaches to use through this basketball season. It would be beneficial for our league and your school to have these scores and your school/team mentioned in the public news & sports media. You can also e-mail them your results at "apscores@ap.org", or, fax the information to 1-888-832-0338. Let's see if we can't give our league and schools, and especially our kids, some public exposure for the hard work they all do!!

2002-2003 Sports
As of the 6/28/02 coaches/a.d. meeting the officially sanctioned sports at this time for the coming school year are: (1) Volleyball (girls & boys; varsity & jv) (2) Basketball ( " " " ") (3) Track (will be a combined invitational/s) Note: Several schools w/o boys volleyball are looking at playing flag-football. This is ok, but at this time there is no planned state tournament. I have set up the sport on the website to post schedules, names, etc., which might be helpful for later information and dialogue. I would encourage schools to begin developing some type of golf team for those students interested--it could begin as part of your physical education--and to do the same for soccer. Any questions, please contact me...I will be unavailable however til end of July. Thanks again. Let's all field boys volleyball teams again if at all possible! We need to allow time for the sport to gain interest! Our first tournament showed the boys that it is much more challenging than it looks!! Mr. Smith
