Maple Ridge evens series with Burnaby

Burrards turn tables from game one in fight-filled affair.

What had the makings of a great night of lacrosse, between the Burnaby Lakers and Maple Ridge Burrards at Planet Ice Arena, turned out to be a penalty-filled affair, at the end of which, the series stood knotted up at one.
The Burrards walked away with an 11-5 victory, in a game  which was marked by a total of 307 minutes in penalties.
Riley Loewen opened up the scoring at 4:12 of the first period, beating Burnaby goaltender Dan Lewis, who drew the start, with Tyler Richards  serving a one game suspension. Burnaby would tally the next two goals of the contest, Scott Jones at 5:08 and Robert Church at 11:03, to take their only lead of the game. The Burrards Garrett MCIntosh would score 24 seconds later to tie the game at 2 - 2. Jarrett Davis at 16:09, on a feed from  Loewen,  would put the Burrards back ahead, the period would end with the Burrards ahead 3-2.
The second period opened up with the Lakers' Dane Stevens tying the game up at 3 - 3, at the 2:19 mark. The Burrards quickly restored their one goal lead, on a goal by Ben McIntosh, assists on the pretty play going to Andrew Murphy and Mike Mallory.
At the 7:29 mark, Burnaby's Nathan Klein took a 5 minute major for boarding Ryan McMichael, and Scott Rouse took a minor for roughing, leading to a long string of penalties, and as a result,  the period was  dominated by special teams play for both teams.
 
Murphy scored  on the ensuing 5 on 3 power play, followed by Ben MacIntosh's goal 25 seconds later, the Burrards took a 3 goal lead, a lead that they would not relinquish on the night.
Casey Jackson, at 11:48 on a splendid individual effort, would pull the Lakers to within two goals, however, Jackson would also draw a penalty on the play,  for making contact with the goalie.
Garrett McIntosh, with his second goal at 18:59, and Jarrett Davis, also with his second, at 19:22, the Burrards were up 8-4 going in to the second intermission.
Riley Loewen with a 60 ft. buzzer beater, Ryan McMichael after Burrards aggressive play led a Burnaby turnover, and Tyler Codron on an empty netter at 10:55, would give Burrards the Burrards an 11-4 lead. Scott Jones for Burnaby, rounded out the scoring,  beating Jeremy Funk, who replaced Scigliano late in the period. There would be no more scoring the rest of the way.There was however a steady stream of players to the penalty box, as the teams amassed a total of 251 minutes in penalties in the last 7:46 of the game.
The major series of scraps, at the 16:39 mark of the period, was initiated on  a low hit delivered by Mitchell Bannister on Burnaby's Tyler Digby. A total of 10 players were ejected from the game as a result of the melee which ensued after the Bannister hit.
The three stars for the game were all from the Burrards: Jarrett Davis, Riley Loewen and  Frankie Scigliano.
Shots were 32 -31 for Maple Ridge.
