Your BC Breakers were in their first exhibition action of the season on the campus of UBC to take on the UBC Women’s varsity team on Saturday September 20th. The Breakers came out of the gates flying taking an early 1-0 lead on a goal scored by Kyla Gillespie, her first goal as a Breaker. Rookie goaltender Kayla Canning had a great performance her debut with the Breakers as well stopping every shot she faced in that period. They finished up the first period with a 2-0 lead on the UBC women.
Period two brought about a goalie change for the Breakers as WWHL Goaltending MVP, Desi Clark, saw her first action of the 2008-2009 season. She was quickly forced into making some incredible saves as the UBC women turned things on. In response to the UBC surge the Breakers brought more fire power scoring 2 more goals in the period and headed to the final frame with a 4-1 lead.
Period three saw much more of the same with the Breakers and UBC Women trading power plays throughout the period. In front of more great goaltending by Desi Clark the Breakers managed to pot another goal late in the 3rd and ended up with a 5-2 victory over the UBC Women. The team had a great debut and did a lot of great things in the win at UBC.
