July 21, 2022 Wins-Loss Error FIXED |
|
There is a problem with Sportsdesk in regards to the wins for Dalhousie...the games played are correct but Dalhousie should have one more win then showing. After 80 games played by the league, there are 39 wins (missing one for Dalhousie) and 40 losses (this is correct). Puzzling problem.
I contacted esportsdesk and they informed me of the cause of the problem right away. It was Dalhousie's win in 9 innings back in mid-July. I had 'ticked' off the overtime box and the site was not set up for overtime and thus Dalhousie was not credited with the win, but as soon as I unticked that box, the problem corrected itself...Ian |

Chatham Head Team Award-1st Place with 10-8 Record---
I did not forget to post this--I was waiting to see what the league final
would bring, the playoff series between Chatham Head and Dalhousie.
The final was supposed to be played prior to the provincials however, a
player with one of the teams came down with covid and the entire
teams was placed in isolation. So, we planned on playing it after
provincials however, several health issues (of non-covid type) and the
planned repairs to the Chatham Head ball field does not allow us to
play the final this fall. This could be played before the 2022 year
begins...I have been getting a number of emails on the final, so, this is
why it is not being played....Ian |

|
September 13, 2021 2021 Provincials |
|
The 2021 Provincials was hampered by rain this year. Friday's games
were washed out and moved to Saturday and the tourney's final was
cancelled after a huge down pour soaked the field and will be played in
Fredericton at a future date. Fredericton earned top spot with a 2-1
record and the best defensive team; Dieppe and Chatham Head went 2-1
and Dalhousie 0-3. Dieppe
defeated Chatham Head in the Semi Final 4-0 to earn the right to play
Fredericton for the championship. Have a good winter everyone....Ian |

August 19, 2017 MVBL 2017 Award Winners |
|
The MVBL presented a number of regular season awards to
deserving
ball players during the first/second round of the playoffs. Matt
Curry
of Grand Falls won the ERA Championship with a 1.06 ERA in 39
innings pitched, only allowing 6 earned runs in these 39 innings,
to go
with 30 k's and only 6 walks. Matt also won the batting crown,
even
though there were 9 players with a higher batting average, they
did
not have the required 44 plate appearances to win the crown.
The
closest was Joel Blanchard with 38 plate appearances and a .486
BA.
However, Matt appeared in every one of Grand Falls games and
rightly
deserved the batting crown, hitting .456 in 72 pa's and 57 AB's,
26
hits, comprised of 20 singles, 4 doubles and 2 home runs. Brian
Dunn,
of Chatham Head was closing fast in the batting crown race,
finishing
in second place, with a .444 BA in 63 Ab's with 28 hits,
comprised of
20 singles, 7 doubles and 1 triple. Jeff Guitard of Dalhousie won
the
strikeout crown with 46 k's in 54 innings pitched. Dennis
Graham of
Miramichi won the Home Run championship hitting 3 this year
and also
the RBI title, driving in 20 in only 8 games played! Who knows
what
he would have done in 18 games. Jeff Guitard of Dalhousie also
was
the stolen base champ with 14 in 16 games played. Team Reps
voted
for the Rookie of the year and MVP, and I asked them for 3
choices
with their favorite first (and they could not vote for a team
mate). I assigned a point system of 5 points for
a first
place vote, 3 for a 2nd place vote and 1 point for a 3rd place
vote.
Winning the Rookie award in a very close vote was Billy Gaston
of
Miramichi compiling 17 points (3 first, 2 third), followed by
teammate
Dustin McKay with 16 points (3 first, 1 third) and Olivier Gendron
of
Dalhousie was a notable 3rd with 14 points (4 second and 2
third).
The MVP, however, was a run-away, with Matt Curry of Grand
Falls
receiving 5 first place votes and 1 third place vote to win the MVP
award with 26 points. His closed rival was Dennis Graham with
10
points, and Yan Rail of Caraquet with 8, with Brian Dunn of
Chatham
Head in fourth with 7 points. Congratulations to all of our
winners for
2017....Ian |

August 6, 2017 Teams Vote on MVBL 2017 All Stars |
|
Thank you to all seven team reps who voted for the MVBL 2017 All Star
Team. I am currently writing up an article to share on here...come back
tonight and see the results of their vote. Perhaps we can send a
challenge out to the NB Senior Men's League to have an All Star game
with our best against their best...one game, say at a New Brunswick 'Icon'
Park, Ironmen Field...what about it guys, (NB Senior League) are you up
to the challenge?...tune back tonight for the results of the vote |
|
|
August 6, 2017 Team Reps Vote On League All Stars |
|
This is a result of all Seven Teams Reps’, who I asked to give me their
list of top nine batters (by position or not) and the top four pitchers, in
their opinion, but they could not vote for anyone from their team. I
have that list finalized and for additional fun, I issued a challenge to
the NB Senior League for a 1 game All Star game of their best against
our best. We will see about the All Star game, but I created a batting
order from the results of this vote and some players are playing in
different positons then they normally do, as did not have any catchers
and normal 3rd basemen (that I am aware of) voted to the All Star
Team.
Batting 1st and playing Centerfield, AJ McKay (Miramichi Cardinals)
Batting 2nd and playing Leftfield, Brian Dunn (Chatham Head Tigers)
Batting 3rd and playing 1st Base, Matt Curry (Grand Falls Cataracts)
(can also pitch)
Batting 4th and the Designated Hitter, Dennis Graham (Miramichi
Cardinals) (can also play 1b and pitch)
Batting 5th and catching, Andrew Carter (Chaleur Red Sox) (can also
pitch and play 1b)
Batting 6th and playing Shortstop, Kevin Landry (Tracadie-Shiela
aigles)
Batting 7th and playing 3rd base, James Scott (Miramichi Cardinals)
(can also play 1b and OF)
Batting 8th and playing RF, Remi Comeau (Tracadie-Shiela aigles) (can
also play CF)
Batting 9th and playing 2b, Remi Legere (Tracadie-Shiela aigles) (can
also pitch and play SS)
Pitching and voted the one all teams would want on the mound in a
crucial game, Yan Rail (Caraquet Acadians) (can also play 2b)
Substitutions are players who received at least two votes in the voting
process:
Pitchers, Jeff Guitard (Dalhousie Dodgers) (also play SS), James Hicks
(Miramichi Cardinals) (also play SS), Frederic-Denis Benoit (Tracadie-
Shiela aigles) (can also play 2b) and Andrew Collins (Chaleur Red Sox)
Position Players, Joel Blanchard (Caraquet Acadians) (OF), Dustin
McKay (Miramichi Cardinals) (also can pitch), Marc Michaud (Grand
Falls Cataracts) (OF)
In my opinion, this All Star team is short on a backup catcher and 3rd,
and there were three young men who finished neck and neck in the
Rookie of the Year voting by the team reps and one of the three,
Dustin McKay is a sub voted to the All Star team, so, I feel the other
two can be backup at 3rd base, Billy Gaston, (Miramichi Cardinals) and
catcher, Olivier Gendron (Dalhousie Dodgers).
Coach of this team, would be Allan Menzies, who Miramichi Cardinals
finished first, in the regular season.
Thank you for reading this and thanks to the seven team reps who
helped me with their votes…..Ian

September 11, 2016 Provincials Signals Seasons' End |
|
Every year the Provincials signals that another season has come and gone in
the MVBL. This year the MVBL representatives was absolutely outstanding.
With Tracadie-Shiela hosting the "A" Division and Chatham Head hosting
the "B" division, they were joined by playoff winner Grand Falls in "A" and
playoff runner up Miramichi in the "B", giving us 4 out of 8 teams in the
provincials. When the round robin schedule was completed all four MVBL
teams were in the Finals: Tracadie-Shiela with a 3-0 record against Grand
Falls at 2-1 was the "A" Division final and Miramichi with a 3-0 record
against Chatham Head who finished at 2-1 in the "B" final. Miramcihi
Cardinals beat the Chatham Head Tigers 6-4 to win the 'B" division.
Meanwhile, Tracadie-Shiela needed 17, YES 17 INNINGS to slip past Grand
Falls 5-4. Remi Legere of Tracadie pitched all 17 innings for Tracadie! I
personally watched the last 6 innings of this marathon and both teams were
so tired at the end of this 5 plus hour game....congratulations to all four
MVBL teams, especially the winners Tracadie-Sheila and Miramichi...Ian |

August 31, 2016 Grand Falls Playoff Champions |
|
Congratulations to the Grand Falls Cataracts on another fine season and playoff run. The Cataracts went 16-2 in the regular season and then swept two good teams in the playoffs to record a 6-0 mark in their playoff run to the championship. They move on to the Provincial "A" tournament in Tracadie-Sheila on the September 9-10-11. Best of luck Grand Falls and Tracadie in this tournament, I know you will represent the MVBL to your best abilities.
Also, finishing as runner-up in the playoffs, the Miramichi Cardinals will represent the MVBL in the "B" division of the Provincials in Chatham Head September 9-11. They will be joined by the host, Chatham Head Tigers, in this tournament and I would like to wish both teams, good games and good luck....Ian |

the year, for 2016, batting .333 as will as the microscopic ERA of 0.28.
Strikeout champ Andrew Carter of Dalhousie Dodgers with 44. And finally

August 2, 2016 Down-The-Wire Race for 2nd to 5th |
|
We are in the last couple days of the 2016 season, with 3 games slated for tonight and the standings may change dramatically. Should Dalhousie beat Miramichi Cardinals, they would claim 2nd place and the bye (would actually tie in the standings if the Cardinals beat Bathurst on Wednesday, but the Dodgers would claim 2nd based on the games between the teams, currently tied at 1-1). If Dalhousie loses to the Cardinals, and Chatham Head wins against Tracadie, the Tigers would claim 3rd place with the Dodgers dropping to 4th. If Tracadie wins against Chatham Head, Tracadie would climb up to 4th with the Tigers finishing 5th. And...not to forget Caraquet and Chaleur, if Chaleur wins tonight against Caraquet and tomorrow night against the Cardinals, they would jump into the playoffs, dropping Caraquet out.....So, there might be a huge shift in the standings tonight....stay tuned. |

July 1, 2016 Rail Throws No Hitter |
|
Yan Rail of Caraquet threw a rain shortened 5 inning no hitter against the
Chaleur Red Sox on Wednesday night in Bathurst in a regular scheduled game.
Rail struck out 4 and walked 2 in pitching his gem. With the win, Rail
improved to 2-1 and his ERA is a squeaky 0.41 in 17 innings. Congratulations
Yan.... |

September 13, 2015 MVBL Teams Make It To the Finals |
|
Congratulations to both A Division Grand Falls Cataracts and the B Division
Tracadie-Sheila Aigles, who both made it to their divisional finals at the
Provincials. Grand Falls fell short in a valiant comeback attempt, losing 9-8
to
the Fredericton Expos. Meanwhile, the Tracadie Sheila team loaded the
bases
with one out but a line drive double plan ended their hopes and their
season,
losing 3-2 to the Port City team. This speaks well of the MVBL teams, as
both
teams made the finals and are runner-up in their respective divisions, and
may I add, were 'small town teams' playing against teams from large city
populations .....good
weekend guys, have a good winter and hope to see you all next year.....Ian |

August 30, 2015 Grand Falls Claims Playoff Championship |
|
The Grand Falls Cataracts are the Miramichi Valley Baseball 2015 Playoff
Champions, defeating the Tracadie-Sheila Aigles 3-2 in eight innings in
game 3 of their best of 5 playoff round to win the title 3-0.
Game three was a game both teams wanted, with Tracadie jumping in front
1-0 in the top to the third. Frederic-Denis Benoit, Tracadie’s starting
pitcher, pitched a gem, in spite of losing in the eighth. Benoit, was perfect
mowing down the Cataracts 1-2-3 in the first four innings, not allowing a hit
or walk. Then Rico Proulx stroked a single in the bottom of the fifth and
Grand Falls would score twice to take a 2-1 lead. Tracadie, answered with
Martin Albert, pitch hitting, slicing a single, and with Robert Landry pinch
running, Landry came across home plate to tie the game 2-2.
In the bottom of the eighth, Benoit walked the first two batters and then
Marc Michaud was walked intentionally to load the bases. Mathieu Moreau
hit into a force play at the plate for the second out, then Proulx, again the
hero, hitting a ball to the infield that was between the 3rd baseman and
shortstop that Proulx beat out at first with the winning run crossing home
plate.
Clint Hitchcock who took over for Frank Fortier, was the winner and
Frederic-Denis Beniot, in a strong effort, the loser. Grand Falls advances to
the Provincials “A” group representing the MVBL in Saint John and Tracadie-
Sheila, representing MVBL in Fredericton in the “B” group of Provincials.
Good luck to both teams in the Provincials….and hopefully see you next year
for the 2016 MVBL season. Ian

July 24, 2015 Rain Outs Causing Havoc with the regular Season: |
|
We are in the last 11 days of the regular season (if one includes August 1-2
for makeup games) and we have forecasts of still lots of rain to come. To
date we have 6 rained out games to be played, 1 cancelled game and 1
suspended game mid-way in the fourth to play/complete. I feel that some
of these games will not be played and I apologize to the fans who are
reading this. But at our annual meeting we agreed to put emphasis on the
playoffs making all of the series the best of 5 (except the 4-5 place teams
which will be the best of 3). So, we must shut down the season at August 2
and move on to the playoffs, and leave whatever games not played in the
‘rain puddles’ as of August 3rd. All teams are striving to complete 20-22
games, with the exception of Grand Falls who had no rain-outs to date, and
they hopefully will complete 23 games. Thanks fans for supporting your
teams, Ian |

|
July 11, 2015 2015 Season Winding Down |
|
Just 3 more weeks remaining in the 2015 MVBL season. We have had a few
rain outs, but none so far involving Grand Falls, who have the farthest to travel.
Chatham Head has a brand new renovated field to show off, and it is a beauty.
At this time I would like to thank all of the people who send me the game
reports, from JP in Grand Falls, Allan for the Cardinals, Gary for the Tigers,
Francine of the Aigles, and Fred of the Acadians, I am only as good as the work
of these people, so, Thank you everyone for your work for the league....Ian |

June 4, 2015 2015 MVBL League Is Underway |

The 2015 MVBL League is underway with one weekend slate of games completed (with 1 rain-out). Please check your team roster on the site and let me know if I have someone there that will ABSOLUTELY NOT be playing with your team this year. Some teams have 25 or more players listed and I do not want to delete someone's name thus losing the link to his prior year stats.... |

August 30, 2014 Congratulations to Newcastle Cardinals |
|
Congratulations to Newcastle Cardinals on winning the MVBL Championship and they will representing the MVBL at the Provincials in Grand Falls Sept 5-7. This is the second consecutive championship for the Cardinals. They defeated a veteran Grand Falls team, 2-1 (in 8 innings) and then 8-4 to win the best of 3 series. The series was shortened due to a number of rain outs experienced during the playoffs. This will be addressed during the next year's annual meetings. Again congratulations to the Newcastle Cardinals, the 2014 MVBL Champs. |

August 22, 2014 Lighting Problem Cancels game |
|
A lighting problem with a whole pole of lights that failed to come on cancelled the game between the Newcastle Cardinals and Chatham Head Tigers. The pole behind the home team's dugout which illuminated home plate failed to light up, and after a 1 1/2 hour delay the game was cancelled. The 3rd game of this series may be played at Tiger field should the lighting problem not be resolved....check the schedule tomorrow for the location....Ian
The light situation is fixed! The game is at Cardinal field at 8 pm |

August 10, 2014 Coaches Vote on Awards |
|
All five coaches had their input on two awards, the 2014 Rookie of the Year and the 2014 MVP for his team for the 2014 MVBL season.
Wining the Rookie of the Year award for 2014 Remi Blanchard of Caraquet, who received 10 of a possible 12 points in the voting process (3 points for 1st, 2 points of a 2nd place nomination, and 1 point for a third place nomination from the coaches). Blanchard appeared in 11 of Caraquet's 19 games and batted an 'eye turning' .500 on 20 hits in 40 AB's with 7 doubles and 1 triple and 9 RBIs. Joel Blanchard of Caraquet finished second in voting with 7 voting points and Tanner Henry of Chatham Head third with 6.
The MVP award was a solid 3 way race going down to the last vote cast. The voting points were the same as the rookie voting (3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 point for a 3rd place vote). Yan Rail of Caraquet won the award receiving 9 of a possible 12 voting points. Yan lead on the mound and at the plate racking up the following stats: .404 batting avg., with 7 doubles, 1 home run and 9 RBI's and a 2.56 ERA with a 5-2 win/loss record, recording 33 k's in 38 innings. A solid year for Yan.
Finishing neck and neck with Yan in the voting was Mathieu Moreau of Grand Falls and Dennis Graham of Newcastle, of the most feared hitters in the league.
Moreau hit a solid .431 with 20 RBI, scoring 21 runs himself to go with 11 BB, and appearing in all of the Cararacts games.
Graham hit a bit better then Moreau, finishing at .438 BA with 10 RBI, scoring 15 runs, but his 18 walks, many of them intentional show the fear of his bat by opposing pitchers. Dennis also went 2-0 on the mound with 26 ks's in 23 innings and a neat 1.22 ERA.
These definitely are 3 stars of the MVBL for the 2014 season....congratulations Remi on the rookie award and Yan on the MVP award!....Ian |
|
|
August 10, 2014 Coaches Vote on All Stars |
|
All five coaches participated in choosing the 2014 MVBL All Stars choosing the top 4 pitchers (in their opinion) and, this year something different, the best 8 positional players no matter where they played. Many players play several positions so trying to nail down one position for a player often caused a good player to be left off of the All Star Team. And a player could be on the list of best pitchers and on the list of best positional players.
This was the case for Yan Rail, the leagues MVP who was the only player who made both lists, the top pitchers and top positional players.
Here are the players chosen by the coaches, first the 4 pitchers; Yan Rail of Caraquet, Clint Hitchcock of Grand Falls, Frank Fortier of Grand Falls and James Hicks of Newcastle. The positional players winning the nods of the coaches were (in no particular order): Mathieu Moreau of Grand Falls, Yan Rail of Caraquet, Dennis Graham of Newcastle, Jeff McCarthy of Newcastle, Remi Legere of Tracadie-Sheila, Remi Blanchard of Caraquet, Nick Hardy of Chatham Head and Eric Moreau of Grand Falls.
Congratulations guys....Ian |
|
|
August 8, 2014 Award Winners |
|
Here is a list of award winners according to the stats received for the 2014 MVBL year:
2014 Regular Season Champs-Newcastle Cardinals with a 14-5 record; 2014 Batting Champ-Nick Hardy of the Chatham Head Tigers with a .452 BA on 19 hits in 42 at bats....Nick qualified having 52 plate appearances (he needed 48 in a 20 game season); 2014 Pitching Champ is James Hicks of Newcastle Cardinals with a microscopic 0.37 ERA in 19 innings with ONLY 1 RUN ALLOWED in 19 innings pitched; Home Run winner was Jeff McCarthy of Newcastle Cardinals with 2 (one of the lowest totals of all time for the league); 2014 Stolen Base winner was AJ McKay of Newcastle Cardinals with 13 sb; Frank Fortier of Grand Falls was the 2014 strikeout king with 44 ks' in 36 innings, a 1.222 k's per inning ratio... |
|
|
August 4, 2014 2014 Regular Season Completed |
|
The regular season is now finished with the standings finalizing as they are now. We have bad weather moving in with severe t-storm risk all of today (a tropical storm is due here on Wednesday-Friday), thus the Grand Falls/Chatham Head double header was cancelled, and possibility the game tonight with Caraquet/Tracadie would be washed out too, so, we are freezing the standings as of today and begin our quest in putting a playoff season together. So, the Caraquet/Tracadie game does not have to be played because should Tracadie win, we would be in a bind, with the tropical storm moving in, when would Chatham Head be able to play their games? We have only a 1 month time frame to declare a league playoff winner for the provincials, so, if we have bad weather, we need all of the time we can get.
If you have players who are not up to the playoff eligibility, I will give the ones with 5 games a 1 game credit, making them eligible, if they are at 5 games now. |
|
|
July 30, 2014 Walk Off Grand Slam |
|
I cannot remember seeing a walk off grand slam before in the MVBL but I seen one tonight. Tracadie-Sheila came from behind, down 3-1, they tied it in the sixth and went up 4-3 heading into the home half of the 7th. Newcastle's speedster, AJ McKay drew a lead off walk, then Matt Matchett dropped a perfect bunt for a base hit putting runners on 1st and 3rd. Matchett stole second forcing Tracadie-Sheila pitcher
Luc-Edouard Benoit to intentionally walk James Scott to load the bases in hope of a force at home. Jeff McCarthy, who pitched the complete game, as did Benoit, drove a 3-1 count deep into left field into the parking lot for a walk off grand slam, propelling Newcastle to a 7-4 win over Tracadie-Sheila. Both teams played a great game....Ian |
|
|
July 18, 2014 12 Inning Thriller |
|
On Tuesday night, July 15, Newcastle Cardinals came from behind in the top of the 7th inning, from a 7-3 deficit to send the game with the Chatham Head Tigers to extra innings. Dennis Graham, whose bat was feared the entire night, was on 3rd base and scored the game tying run, on a passed ball. Each team scored in the first inning, with the Tigers leading 4-2 after one. Newcastle added a run in the third to close to 4-3 with the Tigers increasing the lead to 7-3 with 3 runs in the sixth. Then James Hicks for Newcastle and Ronnie Dickson for Chatham Head took over and mowed the opposing batters down one after another with Hicks recording 12 strikeouts and both teams failing to get any runners in serious scoring threats. For 5 innings zeros were prominent, then in the 12th inning Newcastle pushed two runs across home plate on a pair of Tiger errors to come away with the win in 12 innings. In my opinion, it was a great game by both teams, and a shame someone had to lose. Ian |
|
|
May 14, 2014 Schedule is Posted! |

September 9, 2013 Tremendous Year |
|
I would like to congratulate both the Newcastle Cardinals and Tracadie-Sheila aigles on their silver medal finishes in the Provincials. Two teams of our five in the top four teams in the province speaks well of this league. And Caraquet had a fine showing in the 'B' group of the Provincials as well.
Newcastle was an amazing story this year: a season-long shortage of players (work commitments etc) they were forced to rely on affiliates. These young players propelled the Cardinals in the playoffs past a very good Grand Falls team, then over a equally good Caraquet team. In the provincials, again two affiliates did the job and Newcastle almost came home with the gold, except they ran out of pitching.
In conclusion, I would like to thank all of the teams in the MVBL for the excellent year; very competitive teams (even Chatham Head were competitive losing over 7 games by one run), with strong pitching, this was one of the best years for the MVBL ever. I am so happy to see the sportsmanship of all of the teams-not one problem all year! I love that. Thanks guys and may 2014 be as fulfilling as 2013....Ian |

September 6, 2013 Provincial Schedules |

August 30, 2013 Newcastle Playoff Champs |
|
Congratulations to the Newcastle Cardinals, winners of the Miramichi Valley Baseball League's playoffs, in 3 games over Caraquet. Newcastle represents the league in division A of the Provincials in Saint John next weekend and Caraquet represents the league, along with Tracadie-Sheila in the division B in Tracadie next weekend. Best of luck to both teams in the Provincials.
Mike Simon was the winner tonight throwing 6 2/3 innings, with the save to Perry Deveaux. Newcastle turned 4 double plays, including one unassisted by young AJ McKay at second base...well done guys...bring home the hardware next weekend.... |

August 12, 2013 A Special Thank You |
|
I would like to thank all of teams and their reps who sent me the game stats all year. I am only as good as you are. So, JP Proulx in Grand Falls, Allan Menzies in Newcastle, Jeremy Trevors and Ryan Flynn in Chatham Head, Francine (unsure of last name) in Tracadie-Sheila, and Fred Lanteigne in Caraquet, thank you for the work you did to help me in 2013....Ian |

|
Coaches Vote for All Star Team
Four of the five coaches of the teams of the Miramichi Valley Baseball League cast their votes for the top players for 2013. Here is a run down of the voting by position:
Pitchers: No doubt Martin Rouselle of Tracadie-Sheila is the top pitcher, going 7-0 with 76 k’s in 43 innings, he was a dominate pitcher. Second was Perry Deveaux of Newcastle who was 2-2 with 62 k’s in 39 innings.

DH honors went to Mathieu Morneau, of Grand Falls, who was voted for other positions, as he played several positions this year. Mathieu had a steady year batting .288 with 8 RBI’s in 20 games.

September 9, 2012 Provincial A Champs |
|
Congratulations to Grand Falls Cataracts on winning the Provincial A Championships. A strong 4-0 record in the Provincials to go along with a 6-0 MVBL playoffs. Grand Falls certainly peaked at the right time.
Congratulations Grand Falls, and this is 2 in a row for the MVBL for crowing Provincial A champs, Newcastle last year and Grand Falls for 2012. |
|
|
September 3, 2012 2012 MVBL Award Winners |
|
Congratulations to all of our award winners for 2012. Here is a list of all of the winners and some of their stats:
Top Pitcher was Kris McKay of Newcastle. McKay 7-0 record and a 1.45 ERA and struck out 54 batters in 38 innings.
Top Hitter was Darcy Foran also of the Newcastle Cardinals. Foran batted a league leading .417 with 20 hits in 48 Abs.
Top ERA leader was Frederic-Denis Benoit of Tracadie-Sheila. Beniot had a microscopic 0.88 ERA in 39 innings pitched and had a 5-1 win-loss record.
Top Home Run Hitter was Mathieu Moreau with 7 home runes playing in every Grand Falls game. He also led the league with 30 RBI.
Top Rookie was Shane Dinan of Chatham Head. Dinan batted .500 in 13 games with the Tigers and appears to be a promising prospect for Chatham Head.
Co-Winner of the MVP Award was Dennis Graham of Newcastle Cardinals. Graham fell 4 plate appearances short of winning the league’s batting title, and finished with a .575 batting average in 14 games with the Cardinals and was far above everyone else in On Base Percentage with a .691 percentage and also in slugging with a .950 percentage.
MVP Award also went to Mathieu Moreau of Grand Falls. Moreau was Mr. everything for the Cataracts. He played in every game, besides leading the league in home runs and rbi’s, he led in total bases with 54 and finished second in slugging, behind Graham, with a .675 slugging percentage.
The League Regular Season winning team was the Newcastle Cardinals who finished with a 19-4 won-loss record.
The Playoff champion was Grand Falls who defeated Newcastle in the final to win the right to advance to the Provincial ‘A’ tournament. Grand Falls beat an improved Tracadie-Sheila team and a strong Newcastle team to go to the A division in Dalhousie. Newcastle will represent the MVBL in the ‘B’ division in Saint John.
Congratulations to all the winners and a special thank you to all of the teams who made this year a great one for the MVBL. And a special thank you to Jeremy Trevors, who helped with gathering game scores and the Chatham Head stats. Good luck teams in the provincials. Ian

August 13, 2012 Coaches Vote for All Team |
|
When you have the respect of opposing coaches, then you know that you are probably one of the star players in the Miramichi Valley Baseball League. All six coaches in the MVBL were asked to vote for the dominant players in the league, but the coaches could not vote for anyone from their own team. The result is an Intermediate All Star team that would meet any coach’s dream. Here are the results by position:
Pitching-Kris McKay of Newcastle Cardinals 7-0 win-loss, 54 strikeouts and a 1.45 ERA in 38 innings; Frederic-Denis Benoit of Tracadie-Sheila, 5-1 record, microscopic 0.88 ERA in 39 innings; Remi Legere, also of Tracadie-Sheila, 7-1 record, 1.88 ERA in 48 innings.
Top catcher as voted by the opposing coaches was Bruce Chiasson of Lemeque, a .400 batting average in 19 games with 24 hits. First Base, was Brad Gallant of Newcastle, a .387 batting average in 22 games, 29 hits, 3 Home Runs and 14 RBI’s. 2nd Base Mike Simon of Newcastle Cardinals, had a steady year, batting .348 in 19 games, with a couple of home runs and 14 RBI’s. 3rd Baseman Daniel Sonier, of Tracadie-Sheila, drew the nod for the hot corner, batting .319 in 22 games, 19 RBI’s to go with his 22 hits. Shortstop votes resulted in one of our two ties: Scott McEacheron of Chatham Head Tigers, batted .353 on the year in 20 games in the leadoff position for Chatham Head and tying him, Eric Moreau of Grand Falls, another lead off batter, who batted .338 playing in every game for Grand Falls.
The Outfielders voted as All Stars were; Darcy Foran of Newcastle, who batted lead off for the Cardinal team, and won the batting title with a .417 average in 18 games with 6 doubles and a triple, Marc Michaud of Grand Falls, who batted .333 in 12 games with 3 home runs and 14 RBI’s and Allan Hilchie who batted .435 in 15 games with 14 RBI’s from this line drive hitter for Chatham Head.
We had a tie for Designated Hitter, with Dennis Graham of Newcastle, who would have been the batting champion if he had 3 more plate appearances. Dennis batted an astounding .575 in 14 games with 3 home runs and 19 RBI’s. Tying Dennis is the only player that every coach voted for, but unfortunately some voted him as a Shortstop, 2nd Base, Outfield, and DH, thus the split votes cost Mathieu Moreau of Grand Falls a position All Star spot. Mathieu probably had MVP type of year, being Mr. Everything for Grand Falls, batted .350 appearing in all 24 of Grand Falls games, with 5 doubles, and league leading 7 home runs and 30 RBI’s.
Congratulations to all the All Stars for your outstanding seasons and best of luck in the forthcoming playoffs with your teams.
