Ex-Drayton Valley Thunder Jordan Martinook is off to the dogs—Desert Dogs that is, as the Phoenix Coyotes selected Martinook in the second round of Saturday’s NHL entry draft.
Martinook broke into the AJHL as a 16-year-old for two games in the 2008-2009 season with the Thunder. The following year, the Leduc native finished the Thunder campaign posting an impressive 21-19-40 in 59 games with the Thunder.
The Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants lured Martinook to the west coast for the next two seasons where last season, he flourished amassing 40 goals and 24 assists in 72 games played.
It’s that kind of resume which earned Martinook the 58th overall selection by the Coyotes.
Coyotes’ Director of Scouting Rick Knickle had his eye on Martinook for the past two seasons, “Certain things about Jordan just kept developing…We targeted him and we thought that he may not be there at 58. We kind of crossed our fingers and he was there.”
The Thunder would like to Congratulate Jordan on the next step of his hockey career.
