Kings grad, Penguins draft pick Maguire on track for BU with POW
- Submitted by
It's been a long time coming for Boston University goaltender and former Powell River Kings star Sean Maguire, which has to make it feel that much sweeter to earn a Hockey East player of the week award.

Out all of last season battling with concussion issues, Maguire is now back and showed he's not to be written off. He backstopped the Terriers to a 4-1 win Saturday over previously-unbeaten Quinnipiac, the No. 2-ranked NCAA team at the time.

Maguire made a season-high 36 saves against the Bobcats and evened his record at 3-3 as he won on the road for the first time this season.

A native of Powell River, Maguire got to play two seasons for his hometown Kings. In 2010-11, he shared the BCHL Wally Forslund Trophy with Michael Garteig as the league's top goalie tandem. He shared it again the next season as the Kings' No. 1 goalie with Jonah Imoo the backup.

The 2011-12 season included several highlights for Maguire as he was the starting goalie for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge in Langley and he helped the club to a gold medal. He earned his scholarship to Boston University shortly after that and got on the NHL radar which led to him being drafted in the fourth round in 2012 by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Maguire recorded a mark of 27-15-1 with five shutouts over his two BCHL campaigns. He also carried a 2.39 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage while showing his stickhandling skills by picking up six assists in 46 career games.
