Cardinals Sneak Past Ingersoll
It has been an up and down ride for the St. Thomas Cardinals so far in 2014. The team has been in every game so far but only sat at 3-3 heading into Saturday night's game against the Blue Jays.

The Cardinals prior 4 games involved a 14-3 win over a shortened Listowel side, dressing only 9 guys. Followed by a close 6-5 loss to the Kincardine Cubs, who dizzied Cardinal batters with a variety of solid pitchers, all 4 throwers going at least 2 innings. The Cardinals had a chance to tie late with a runner on 3rd but the cubs managed to strike out Aidan Smith to end the game. The Angels battled the Cardinals well June 16 before losing 5-4 on a bloop single to right by Chris McMurray in the bottom of the 9th. Ryan Hornick and Aidan Smith combined to give up 4 runs in 9 innings, with Smith taking the win. Finally, the Cardinals took on the Mitchell Astros in what turned out to be a good pitching duel. Mitchel starter Brett Pfeifer was a little better on the night than his counterpart Aidan Smith, giving up only 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 shutout innings. Aidan Smith was also strong giving up 3 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings while walking only one. In the 9th the Cardinals had runners on 1st and second with no out but Rick Boon was able to get Bryan Patteson to pop up. Brandon Scott hit a single to get guys on 1st and 3rd with 1 out but was then thrown out trying to steal second. Boon then was able to convert the final out for the save. In the Cardinals 3 loses this year the games have been close, only losing all 3 games by a total of 5 runs combined.

On June 28 the Cardinals took on the Ingersoll Blue Jays in Tilsonburgh. The Jays played St. Thomas tough the first meeting between the two team to open up the regular season back in May.

Ingersoll took advantage of 3 Cardinal errors to score 1 in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Ingersoll got some good pitching from their starter who shut out the Cardinals for the first 5 innings. St. Thomas chipped in a run in the 6th to get within 3. The Cardinals were still down 3 until the big 8th inning

Jordan Satchell, who pitched a complete game of 4 run ball, none of them earned, drew a walk to lead off the inning. Farris reached on an error and then followed Satchell's steal with a steal of his own to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 0 out. This brought Bryan Patteson to the plate with a chance to tie the game up. Patteson did just that with a 3 run shot to right center to tie the game and put the momentum on the Cardinals side. Mike Renno kept the momentum going with a single. Then after 2 outs Renno scored on an errant throw to give St. Thomas the lead for good. Satchell pitched a flawless 9th to seal the game and bring St. Thomas' record up to 4-3 heading into their next game at home against the Mitchell Astros on June 30.
