The Army is back at top of Alberta SR AAA hockey.
After a disappointing semi-final set back at the hands of Horse Lake last spring, the Bentley Generals stormed through 8 straight wins en route to re-taking the highest possible ranking in Alberta for 2013.
Head Coach Brandin Cote and his super-deep squad took a 2-0 series lead into this weekend and were all-business when it came time to close out the Provincial final. The Gens' posted their 3rd shut-out in 7 play-off games, taking game 3, 4-0 in Bentley on Friday night.
The next night they went into Stonyburgh and posted a 5-1 win to take the 7th Alberta banner in franchise history. Goaltender, Dan Bakala, was just a few minutes from another shut-out until Doug Auchenberg scratched that off the record books with about 8 minutes remaining in the game.
The Generals now have a bit of an extended break before the start of Allan Cup on April 15th. I suppose its a fair trade off...having some extra down time to get the entire roster 100% healthy...measured against the potential for the team to get "rusty".
To be honest...most of the tournament field will have had comparable gaps between qualifiying and Allan Cup 2013. It's a almost a moot point.
