York Diamonds outfielder Brent Sterling held a press conference today to announce that he and his wife have selected the name of their next child, who is due at any moment. Sterling began by thanking everyone for all their cards and kind words. He then announced that his next child will be named Labatt. The assembled media immediately questioned the motivation behind the name, accusing Brent of being bribed by the Canadian beer giant to use his child to advertise their low-carb light beer.
"No, no, no. That's not even remotely true" said a visibly agitated Sterling as he stopped to take a sip from the bottle of Blue that was prominently displayed on the podium. He then continued, "Ahhh, that's a crisp refreshing taste, much like most of the fine products from Labatt's". When asked if his press conference was just an attempt to advertise Labatt's products Brent removed his Labatt 50 baseball cap and rubbed his head, "What makes you people think that I'd sell out like that? I would never do that. I can't be bought by any corporation for any price.... and to think that I would do that with my child is offensive to me. I bet John Labatt never had to deal with such preposterous accusations when he was developing any of his fine brewed creations. I won't take anymore of this. This press conference is over. Shame on all of you. I hope you get mauled by Wildcat... I mean wildcats. It was an honest slip of the tongue, not a shameless plug okay??". Sterling then walked away from the podium, climbed into his Kokanee sponsored go-kart and sped off.
