USA Floorball’s Women’s Under 19 National Team is strengthening their coaching staff by adding Swedish floorball expertise with roots from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Six years after its inauguration and three years after their first participation at a World Floorball Championships (Belleville, Canada), USA Floorball’s Women’s Under 19 National Team is adding a new member to their staff. Alva Helber, with family roots from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is joining the team staff as a coach.

Ms. Helber, born 1999 in Linköping, Sweden, has been involved with competitive floorball since the age of five. At the 2016 World Floorball Championships in Belleville, Canada, at the age of 17, she made her debut on the international floorball stage and with Team USA by making a hat-trick; scoring three goals against Team Austria, the team’s first victory ever. This was the first world championship match ever for USA’s Under 19 Women’s national floorball team.

At the 2018 World Floorball Championships in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Ms. Helber exhibited her leaderships skills again, both on and off the court, as the very successful Captain of Team USA.

In addition to being a competitive athlete, Ms. Helber also has a proven track record as a coach having been involved with coaching high level youth since 2009. Since 2018, she has assisted the Women’s U19 national program with the design of floorball drills.

In 2016/2017, she spent one year at Saline High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan studying English and Psychology as an Honor Roll student. As part of her studies, she got to work with special needs children, which she enjoyed thoroughly. In her spare time, she played floorball with the Detroit Floorball Club. Detroit Floorball Club hosted the first ever Women’s World Floorball Championship Qualifier in the USA in February of 2019.

USA Floorball Board of Directors wishes Ms. Helber and the Women’s U19 all the best for the upcoming World Floorball Championships in May of 2020. This event will take place at the magnificent IFU Arena in Uppsala, Sweden.
