At IHV we value the development of our coaches, and integration of individuals who wish to become a coach.
Throughout both Summer and Winter IHV sanctioned leagues, each team must have an accredited coach on their bench for the game. Please refer to specific IHV Regulations for particular guidelines.
All IHV Coaching Courses align with IHA, and are associated with the Australian Sports Commission.
IHV endeavour to facilitate a Level I Coaching Course twice per year, once before the Winter season and once before the Summer season.
Coaching courses will be posted on our facebook page with details of course registration.
We open our course to Para Hockey coaches as well as our Ice Hockey coaches.
As we aim to increase our number of coaches, we also aim to increase our level of professional development for coaches, including mentorship, short courses, additional education through camps (both on our soil and overseas).
Coaching progressions within IHA include national coaching roles such as Victorian Teams, IHA National Development Camps, Australian Representative Teams and opportunities to travel to coaching summits around the world.
The Level I course is an introduction to coaching all ages, including communication, reporting, planning, child safety, conduct and hockey specific modules. This course is aimed at people who wish to begin coaching and is valid for two years. If your accreditation is due to expire, please contact your club president for details on how to extend your qualification.
IHV also endeavour to work with our neighbouring associations to facilitate a Level II Coaching Course. This course has a pre-requisite of holding a Level I, and actively coaching for one year. This course is aimed at our coaches who are interested in extending their knowledge and experience as a coach. Additional topics such as biomechanics, goaltending and further structure of a hockey season are added to the Level I modules to complete the curriculum for the Level II course.
