Merritt Centennials: About Us
The Merritt Centennials hockey club is the longest continuously run franchise in the British Columbia Hockey League. The Centennials’ 42-year history in the BCHL is filled with memorable moments and exciting events, including the winning of both the Doyle and Mowatt Cups in 1977-78, and the Interior Conference playoff championships in 2001.
The Centennials currently play in the Interior Conference of the BCHL, arguably the top division in all of Canadian Junior A hockey. One or more member teams are consistently ranked in the top-10 nationally every year.
The Merritt Centennials are one of only five community-owned franchises in the BCHL. It is run by a volunteer executive and Board of Directors, whose sole objective is to help Junior A hockey flourish in the community of Merritt.
The BCHL offers hockey players a chance to enhance their skills while also providing exposure to US college, CIS, NHL, and major junior scouts. T
he other member clubs of the BCHL include Alberni Valley Bulldogs, Chilliwack Chiefs, Coquitlam Express, Cowichan Valley Capitals, Langley Rivermen, Nanaimo Clippers, Penticton Vees, Powell River Kings, Salmon Arm Silverbacks, Surrey Eagles, Trail Smoke Eaters, Vernon Vipers, Victoria Grizzlies, and West Kelowna Warriors.
