By making a practice of using the Stay Sharp between games the user will double the amount of ice time between professional sharpenings.

Sharpening Steps:

1. At a sitting position place the skate between your knees with the blade up.
2. Place the Stay Sharp unit, with the hollow ground stone first, on to the skate blade.
3. Gently rock the unit from side to side to set the stone to your hollow ground of the blade.
4. With steady pressure from your fingers on both sides of the unit, run it along the full length of the blade 6-12 times from toe to heel, then run it along the full length of the blade 6-12 times from heel to toe.
5. In doing the previous setup you will have rolled the edge slightly.
6. Check step #4 by running your finger nail up the blade from the blade support to the cutting edge of the blade, you should feel your fingernail catch on the rolled edge.
7. Turn the Stay Sharp over and place the two side stones over the blade and repeat as in step #4 to remove all of the rolled edge.
8. Repeat all steps if necessary to fine tune the edges of the blade.

During the first few hours of skating after a professional skate sharpening you only have to use the sharpener slightly to keep your edge from another professional sharpening .

You do not have to roll the edge while sharpening at this stage - only roll the edge when you feel you are losing the edge you desire.

When using the unit as intended the hollow ground stone should last for the entire season, but it's a good idea to have a spare one.

To replace or turn the stone:

1. Place your thumb and middle finger between the unit at one end only
2. Gently release the locking tab to open the unit at one end only - this will release the stone from its housing.
3. Make sure you have placed the hollow ground stone in its housing properly into one side the unit, then line up the two halves and click back together.
