The following are effective as of May 26, 2004
KOREAN CHRISTIAN SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION I. The name of this league shall be the Korean Christian Softball Association (KCSA) II. The purpose of the KCSA shall be: 1. To provide opportunities for fellowship among Christians 2. To provide opportunities for outreach to non-churched friends 3. To provide opportunities for Christian witness 4. To provide wholesome recreation III. The membership of KCSA shall be: 1. Any church team which meets the following requirements: A. Completed team registration (see Appendix A) B. Paid team fees C. Has a Governor(s) who serves as the spiritual leader of the team D. Has a Coach(s) who manages the affairs of the team E. All their players have completed registration with the team (see Appendix B) F. Be a co-ed team according to league rules G. Has a team name and team shirts H. Has at least two volunteer umpires who will help officiate other league games 2. Any individual who meets with the following requirements A. Has completed registration with a team (Appendix B) B. Is at least twelve years old IV. The governing and management of the affairs of KCSA shall be by the KCSA Committee which is composed of: 1. Two representatives from each team, of which, one shall be either a Governor or a Coach. 2. This group of team representatives shall decide on all matters of the league pertaining to: A. Ruling on cases of disputes or discipline B. Making any necessary improvements to the running of the league C. Planning the mid-season rally and season-end banquet D. All other responsibilities shall be delegated to members or appointed agents of the KCSA Committee; the responsibilities include: i) Game/umpire scheduling ii) Keeping statistics iii) Treasurer iv) Commissioner V. The requirements and responsibilities of the team Governor and Coach: 1. The Governor shall: A. Be a mature Christian who cares for the spiritual welfare of the team B. Have overall authority over the team C. Be responsible for all home game devotionals D. Work with the Coach and the team members to develop a Christ-centered team E. Represent own team if and when filing any grievances to the KCSA Committee 2. The Coach shall A. Be a Christian who is knowledgeable in the game to lead and help players play the game B. Ensure that all players will play and feel part of the team regardless of player’s ability C. Cooperate with the Governor and the team members to develop a Christ-centered team D. Represent the team when making any appeals to the umpire or to the other team’s coach VI. The home game devotionals shall be: 1. An integral part of the whole experience of playing in the KCSA 2. A 15 minute opportunity before or after the game to address any topic relevant to your team’s spiritual needs from a Christian faith perspective 3. An opportunity for players from both teams to share faith concerns in a non-threatening and caring environment 4. An opportunity for the Gospel to be shared in a creative and informal way VII. The rules of the game (see Appendix C) VIII. The awards of the KCSA shall be: 1. The Championship Trophy and team medals (or trophies) 2. The Most Appreciated Team Trophy - The Most Appreciated Team in the league is the team who, collectively, best exemplify sportsmanlike conduct and discipline, whose players have fun playing the game and as a result cause other teams to also enjoy the game, who know how to win and lose with grace and dignity, and who best represent the goals of the league. 3. The Most Appreciated Player Trophy - The Most Appreciated Player is the player who, in your mind, plays the game to the best of his or her ability, who strives to encourage and assist other team members to also play at their best, who promotes teamwork and unity, who exemplifies the best sportsmanship conduct whether on or off the field, and who the team would miss most if he or she were not on the team (each team will vote for its own MAP). In addition to the rules found in Softball Canada’s “Official Guide and Rule Book”, the following rules apply. Where there are differences between KCSA game rules and those of Softball Canada, KCSA game rules shall be used. Rule 1: Definitions as listed in official rule book unless over ruled by KCSA game rules. Rule 2: The Playing Field 1. Basepaths shall be 20 meters 2. Pitching distance shall be 14 meters Rule 3: Equipment 1. Teams are required to provide their own equipment: safety bases, bases, bats, balls (each team will receive 6 game balls for use in home games), scoresheets and uniforms with numbers (by 1st game). 2. Home teams are responsible for the setting up of the bases and producing the new game ball. 3. Baseball shoes with metal cleats or shoes with detachable cleats shall not be allowed. . Rule 4: Team, Players and Substitutes 1. Each player must be registered by his team Governor with the KCSA at least 24 hours before that player’s first game. Each team must register a minimum of ten players (5 females, 5 males). A player may be registered with only one team in the league. No player may play for more than one team. [new 2004] 2. A fielding team shall consist of 9 players: Catcher, 1st baseman, 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman, Shortstop, Left fielder, Center fielder, Right fielder, and Rover (can play either infield or outfield). However, all team members present at the game must be included in the fielding rotation. 3. The batting order must consist of all team members present at the game, including the Pitcher. Every player who bats must also field and vice versa. 4. Teams must be co-ed. The minimum number of female players in the batting order shall be 5 for a complete fielding team. Teams with only 4 female players will be penalized as follows: the team is allowed 8 fielders (i.e. there shall be no rover), 3 of which must be female players; and an automatic out (1) shall be enforced at the bottom of each batting order. 5. The minimum number of players to start a game is 10, of which 4 must be female players. [revised 2004] 6. If a player(s) arrives late, the late arriving player(s) must bat at the bottom of the order. Both the umpires and opposing team manager/scorekeeper must be informed. [revised 2004] 7. A team has 15 minutes after the scheduled time to gather its players and equipment to start a game, after which the game will be forfeited to the team that is ready to start. The score will be 7-0. 8. Each team shall give a copy of their batting order to the opposing team before the start of the game. 9. Every game shall begin with a prayer. The home team is responsible for leading the prayer and the devotional time. 10. Players who played in the game are required to stay for the devotional time. 11. Players may be added at any time during the season. However, a player must play four (4) regular season games with his/her team to be eligible to play in the playoffs. [new 2004] 12. Games cancelled due to weather and not rescheduled may count as a “game played”. However, whenever possible, games shall be rescheduled by the organizing committee. [added 2001] 13. All players must be 12 years of age or older. 14. Player substitution may only be made during the inning in the event of an injury providing: the substitute is a player of the same sex and a member of the team; providing substitution only occurs once for the same player after which the player is removed from the batting order. If the removal results in only two female players remaining, then the ‘minimum number of female player’ rule applies. 15. All players shall conduct themselves at all times in a sportsmanlike manner; foul language of any kind, disparaging remarks, fighting, alcoholic beverages, and drugs of any kind will not be tolerated or permitted. Players will be given a first warning by the umpire, after which the player will be ejecte
