Playoffs, year end & Provincials
Due to a number of different issues, I have canceled our year end playoffs in Richmond. Our last league games will be July 8th.

Its disappointing that the playoffs did not come to be. Speaking with a few teams they do like the idea of running the playoffs as a final tournament for our league but it needs to be determined at the beginning of the year including the date and park. Hopefully we can secure a park early next season to run the tournament

We have a number of teams that have make ups and/or rainout games to make up and can use up the time we have at the park to do so. We have the park until July 22. Teams also have the option to set up games with teams that they feel will help them get prepared for their provincials.

Bill will be contacted and I will let him know we will still need the Blues services to help us get prepared.

Please contact me to let me know what your plans are for scheduling your missed games and exhibition games at Moody so we can fill the spots.

The next tournament we have on our list is the Sr.A provincials. I haven't heard how many teams will be attending but my guess is about 10 teams. I would like to arrange a meeting for Wednesday July 7th to discuss with teams that are participating in the Sr.A provincials what needs to be done for our hosting of this provincials.

Sunfire returns from World Games.
Sunfire has returned from an unbelievable, incomparable experience at the World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. We had the unique privilege of playing as the team representing Canada, playing against the National teams from Chinese Taipei, Korea, Russia and Singapore and the University Champions from Japan. We were thrilled with our two wins against Russia and Singapore and proud of our hard-fought loses to the three teams that took home medals. The Games were athletically, socially and culturally some of the best days of our lives.

Wearing a Team Canada uniform was a thrill beyond compare. The Games featured 31 sports from 105 nations, with 4800 athletes participating. The Games were a huge, world class event that we will never forget. 45,000 screaming, crazy sports fans at opening ceremonies was pretty incredible.

We'd like to thank everyone who supported us on our way to Kaohsiung and all those that were rooting for us as we did our best to represent Canada.

You can view lots of photos and read our blog about our trip at; http://www.facebook.com/ group.php?gid=74456039764&ref=share

Sr. A Proviincial Championship Results.
Sunfire, Kaos , Wiley's Angels & White Rock Renegades advanced to the medal rounds in Victoria. Kaos came away with the Silver. Sunfire was Fourth.

Cal reports:

TEAM KAOS was in the final, once again, at the Provincial Sr. A. Championships, held in Victoria. This time they had to settle for the silver as they were defeated by the Renegades for the second time in the playoff round.

KAOS finished first in the RR, and shutout wins over Sunfire and Wiley's Angels in the playoff round gave them the opportunity to defend their title. The Renegade bats were too hot, and the results were determined.

A great tournament for all KAOS players, as they also took two of the three individual awards..........

- TOP BATTER - Cheryl Chan - with a .734 BA
- TOP PITCHER - Deb Tidy - with an ERA just over 1.00

In a tournament of this caliber, both of these players posted numbers that are very impressive. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Storm win Sr. B Provincial Championships
Surrey Storm defeated the round robin #1 seed team Gordon Head Aces by "Storming" back from a early 3-0 deficit to win the Championship game 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning!

Cavaliers, Guns & Spirits also participated in the tournament. Guns made it through to the playoff round and placed fourth.

Jaime Murray reported:

The Guns started off playing White Rock Thunder on Friday morning, they suffered a tough lost but knew they had to pull up their socks to ensure that they made it into playoffs. They fought back with a vengeance beating the Langley Impact ,the Valley Cats and the Richmond Islanders and ended up placing second in the round robin! Their first play off game was scheduled for 9:00pm on Saturday night against the Surrey Storm. After an inning of play the infamous lower mainland rain began. The game was delayed until the morning where they suffered another hard fought loss. They then went on to play the Langley Impact and took out their frustration from the morning loss against them, and coming out with a win. They were then headed to the Quarter-finals! They played a fierce game against the Surrey Lightening but in the end lost came up short. The team was proud of their efforts and agreed to return next season and leave with some hardware!

Sunfire win League Playoffs.
Last night Sunfire won the league playoffs at Moody Park against the Storm. While the final score was 7 - 0, it did not reflect how close and hard fought the game rally was.

Sunfire coach Kathy Lane reports:

"The final score did not really reflect the majority of evenly played innings between Sunfire & Storm. Sunfire scored early in the first and held on to that slim lead in a very closely contested four innings. In the fifth, the Sunfire was able to string a few hits together adding three more runs, and repeated the task in the sixth. Timely hitting, strong defense and a great pitching performance by Lisa Ekman, who threw the complete game, culminated in a gratifying win for the Sunfire. Sunfire thanks all players, coaches, fans and executive for another season of enjoyable ball."

Storm coach Rob Upton wrote to say:

"Surrey Storm would like to thank the NWSWFA executive for their support and leadership in this, our first season in the Moody Park League.

Thanks to everyone that was out to watch the Playoff Final last night and congratulations the the Sunfire on their win. We wish them good luck at the Senior A Nationals.

Thankyou again for a great season and we look forward to next year."

Have a good summer everyone. Hope to see you all at the AGM on August 24.
