Season schedule will be out before April 22nd.The majority of divisions play Saturday afternoons starting April 27th to June 15th from 3:00 to 8:00 pm starts, younger age groups usually start early. U29, Senior and Atom's play on Sunday. Practice for all teams except Atom's starts this week. All coaches should have contacted your team by now.

Opening Day:
Atom: Sunday April 28th, 8:30 to 10:30 am Windsor High School
Peewee 4/5:Saturday April 20th 4:30 to 5:30 pm Sutherland School
Bantam 6/7: Saturday April 20th 5:30 to 6:30 pm Sutherland School
Junior 8/9/10: Saturday April 20th 6:30 to 7:30 pm Sutherland School

Opening day meet your team at a predetermined spot outside of the field 15 minutes before your session. Please bring flags and wear team Jerseys.
We will have 4 or 5 stations where the coaches and players will learn different football skills. Every 10 minutes a whistle will blow and the team and coaches will move to the next station.
Each session will begin and end with a meeting in the middle of the field, we hope to have some BC Lions ( Thanks Amar Doman) players talk to the kids with some motivational messages.
Our Station Captains will give all players a quick  5 minute warm up, new coaches this is something you should watch and implement in your practices.

Players should have shorts with no pockets,  moulded football cleats is the preferred footwear but running shoes ( dry days) and soccer cleats are okay. Mouth guards aren't mandatory but recommended. Players should have access to their own water via water bottles. Players return footballs and flags to the coaches after each game and practice. Players keep their Jerseys and big thanks to Kyle and Janelle Washington and the Washington Kids foundation for that. Most important is have fun and hope it is a very positive experience for everyone.

Academy
The NVSFFL is proud to announce our second season of the North Shore Spring Football Academy. We are partnering with Amar and Natalie Doman of the BC Lions and greatly appreciate their support in making this happen.

We have made some changes this year and will have two separate age groups. The younger group will be Grades 6,7,8 and 9. The older group will be Grades 9,10,11,12 and University. 

The Academy will be from April 15th to June 20th, with two sessions per week for 20 sessions. Sessions will be between an hour and an hour and 15 minutes. The younger group will be Mondays 5:30 to 6:45 pm at Argyle and Thursdays 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Confederation. The older group will be 6:45  to 8:00 pm Mondays at Argyle and Thursdays at Confederation from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. There could be slight changes to the schedule and fields during the season.

Sessions will focus on speed training, sports core movement, and football skill development. This will be for all positions, and the applicants chosen will become better athletes and football players, guaranteed. This is open to everyone from grades 6 to University. To be eligible, players must be registered in our North Van Spring Flag Football League for the 2024 season.

There will be no cost; it is a free academy for all chosen applicants. We are limiting the Academy to a maximum of 20 players per group. There will be a committee selecting the players. Successful applicants are expected to have 80 % or more attendance at the Academy.

We are incredibly excited to announce that we have three fantastic coaches working with the players in the Academy.

Sports Core Movement: Rob Williams is one of the top Sports Coaches in North America, working with professional athletes in the NFL, CFL, NHL, and many other sports. Nathan Rourke from the BC Lions is one of Rob's students and attributes much of his success to Rob. Rob has a history of making all his athletes improve their performance.

Speed:  Errol is one of the top speed coaches and a former NCAA Division One sprinter. Errol will make everyone faster. Speed in all sports is crucial.

Football Skills:  We are excited to announce that Anthony Findlay will be taking over for Brent Burns. Brent has moved to Powell River and we wish him all the best and he will be missed. But we are very excited to have Anthony Findlay who is a very high level football coach. Anthony is a former CFL and UBC player. Anthony is owner/operator of Level 10 Fitness, who trains many high level athletes and Olympic Gold Medalist, he has also coached in our flag league and VANCOUVER COLLEGE for many years. 

Applications: For applications we are looking for a small note from 1.  a parent/teacher and  2. coach about your attitude and work ethic at school and one of the teams you played on. 3. Plus a small paragraph or so from the youth of why they would like to be part of the Academy. Deadline for Applications is April 7th 2024. Please send applications to nvsfflacademy@gmail.com
