Victoria claims their 19th WLA championship, advances to the Mann Cup
 

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Shamrocks are 2014 Western Lacrosse Association Champions after a 9-4 victory over the Maple Ridge Burrards in Game 5 of the league final on Wednesday night at 100.3 The Q Centre.

Four point performances by Corey Small (2g, 2a) and Dhane Smith (1g, 3a) led the Shamrocks in their title clinching game. Jordan Cunningham (1g, 2a) netted three points while Tyler Hass (1g, 1a), Rhys Duch (2a), Chris Wardle (1g, 1a) and Karsen Leung (1g, 1a) all had two points. Mason Pynn and Derek Lowe also scored.

With three goals, Ben McIntosh led the Burrards in their final game of the year. Brandon Bertoia collected a pair of assists while Jarrett Davis also scored.

In goal for Victoria, Matt Flindell finished the night with 36 saves. Burrards’ goaltender Frankie Scigliano made 40 stops. The Shamrocks outshot the Burrards 49-40.

The Shamrocks win the series 4-1, claiming their second-straight WLA title and 19th in club history. Victoria advances to the Mann Cup where they will play the winner of Major Series Lacrosse.

Tyler Hass was named the playoff’s Most Valuable Player following the game. Hass finished the playoffs with nine goals and seven points for 16 points in nine games.
