Saturday, August 10th was Day Four of the 2013 National Championship Festival, and the first day of Plate/Cup Semi-Finals. There was plenty at stake for Ontario’s teams. At the end of the day, the results for Ontario were incredible. Three teams – the U18 Jr. Blues, the U18 Jr. Storm, and the U16 Jr. Storm – will all play in the Cup Finals tomorrow. Two teams – the U18 and U16 East Jr. Blues – will play in the Plate Finals, while the U17 Jr. Blues will play for third place in the U18 division, and the U15 Jr. Blues will play their final Cup pool match. Ontario Matches – Day Four U18 Men Quebec 14 vs. 24 Ontario-3 (East Jr. Blues U18) – Plate Semi-Finals The U18 East Jr. Blues booked their place in the National Championship Plate Finals tomorrow, after defeating Quebec 24-14. The match was a scrappy affair, bereft with yellow cards and stoppages, but Ontario used superior passing and speed to defeat their provincial neighbours. The East Jr. Blues will take on British Columbia-2 tomorrow morning for the National Championship Plate. The result means that the U18s will play for the National Championship Cup, while the U17s will vie for third place. Both Ontario teams gave their all on the pitch, and used the match to work out any kinks they may have had before their medal matches tomorrow. The U18 Jr. Blues will take on British Columbia tomorrow morning for the National Championship Cup, while the U17 Jr. Blues will battle Alberta in the third-place match. Despite giving up an early penalty, the Ontarians battened down the hatches, and held Quebec pointless for the remainder of the game, while using their speed to exploit gaps in Quebec’s defence. Although Ontario has been an offensive juggernaut this tournament, it has been their defence that has truly excelled. Through four matches, the ladies have only given up 10 points. It was, by far, the U15’s best match of the tournament, as they shocked the tournament hosts by leading at halftime, 17-10.
