After winning 10 in a row the Clippers have now dropped two straight games.
Wednesday Nanaimo built up a 2-0 lead before falling 4-2 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Will Reilly scored a power play goal to give the Clippers a 1-0 lead after one, he picked up a loose puck beside the net and quickly fired it behind goalie Storm Phaneuf.
Matt Hoover extended the lead to 2-0 in the second period when he slipped a puck behind a sprawling Phaneuf.
That was all the scoring Nanaimo could muster, and before the period was done the Capitals got a goal back when Matt Hudie converted a broken play in front of the Clippers net.
In the third Ben Verrall tied the game at 2-2 on a shot from the slot, then Connor Russell beat goalie Jakob Walter from a similar position, and Kyle Topping got an insurance goal by putting in a goalmouth pass.
The shots finished 35-28 for Nanaimo with the Clippers going 1/3 on the power play and 2/2 killing penalties.
Wednesday's Three Stars were 1) Connor Russell 2) Matt Hudie 3) Chris Dodero
There was a heated exchange at the end of the game that included a cross checking penalty and game misconduct for Clippers leading scorer Sheldon Rempal.
The night also ended with a shouting match between the coaches on both sides.
Nanaimo now has a six point lead for first place in the Island Division as these two teams get a two week break from each other.
They will play again in Duncan on December 30, and there could be some fireworks.
This week Nanaimo will host Prince George on Friday and visit Victoria Saturday.
