This season in tier 4, the regular season was pretty much dominated by two powerhouse teams (Rebels & L.A. Aves) who each finished the regular season well up on their opponents and receieved a well deserved first round bi while the remaining 4 team battled out opening round series to see who would be left to take on the top two seeds. The Bar Down Sharks and the Decepticons prevailed in stright sets win to advance to the finals with the Cons set to face off against the Rebels while the Sharks were paired up to face the Aves.
Each series may have surprised the league leaders as each went the distance with game 3's both being close games as well. The Rebels would eventually advance to the finals by taking a barn burner of a game 3 with a 7-5 win over the Cons. The Aves would also advance trough exciting fashion but instead of a goal extravaganza they went the route of nail biting over time before team captain Charles Campbell would burry the winner late in the first OT period with a PP Goal.
This set up the finals that most would have suspected between the Rebels and the Aves who were Tier 4's 1 and 2 seeds after the regular season. In game one the Rebels would be led to a 3-0 lead by their captain Matt Delisle who led the way with 1G & 1A. The Aves would come on hard in the second outshooting thier opponents 8-3 and though they managed to finally put one past Rebels netminder (Renaud), they could not break the keeper who held strong the ensure his Rebels too game 1 (3-1)......Game two was played the very next night and this game ramped up the intensidty and excitement as it saw 5 different game leads when all was said and done in this back and forth affair. With the score 4-3 Aves late Oliver Wylde of the Rebels would tie things to draw his team even and give his team the chance to win the championship in exciting fashion......which they most certainly did only 6 minutes into over time when Jessy Baker burried the championship clinching goal from Delisle and Horman.
This first year LBHA team which was comprised of many players from former LBHA teams, will now "move on up" to tier 3 to test their tallents. L.A. Aves will immediately become the favourite for tier 4 in the upcoming season while the rest of the feild which seems pretty balanced will try to brig n them selves up to the Aves level on a more regular basis.
Congrats to the Rebels for winning the 2016 Tier 4 Championship and thank you to all other teams from this tier for their hard work and participation in this past season.
