Day One of the 2015 Canada Cup Floorball Championship was a huge success, with 13 high school teams from across Canada participating in the High School division.
The surprise of the tournament was the strong play of the Nova Scotia Pioneers, who arrived at their first Canada Cup in style. The team went 4-0 in the round-robin and arrived in the finals confident they could challenge for the crown.
Toronto United returned to the Canada Cup High School division with a number of returning players from last year's championship winning squad. They finished the round-robin 3-0-1, with a tie against the always dangerous and eventual bronze medallist Parkland Warriors Floorball Club.
The fans that stayed at the Mattamy Athletic Centre until the 8:45pm start time of the finals were in for a treat. Nova Scotia took an early 2-0 lead, catching the home team sleeping. The first period ended with the Pioneers holding a 4-2 lead.
Toronto United came out focused in the third, using their power-play to make it 4-3 and then tying the game 4-4 at 6:25 of the second period.
This set the stage for an incredible, seven round sudden death shoot out which you can watch here.
Congrats to all of the High School teams that participated this year and we look forward to seeing you next year!
