The home and away teams are determined by performing a bat toss. The team’s player whose hand ends up at the top of the bat gets to choose whether they are the home team or away team.

The defending team (home team) starts in the field. One player is the pitched and other is the fielder. The pitcher pitches from 46 feet. The fielder may play anywhere he wants as long as he doesn’t interfere with the batter.

The batting team chooses one of their players to bat first and the other player on the hitting team acts as the catcher. The batter and the catcher switch off as they alternate batting.

Three strikes, including foul tips or foul balls, equals a strike out. Four balls or being hit by a pitch gives you a walk.

Because there are no bases and no running in drivewayball the teams playing the game must keep track of where the runner are.

If the batter hits the ball on the ground in front of the pitcher in fair territory, the batter I out on a ground ball.

If the batter hits the ball in the air past the pitcher and it hits the ground in fair territory in front of the designated single line, the batter gets to advance to first base.

The batter gets two bases for a hit in fair territory behind the designated double line, three bases behind the triple line and a home run for a hit beyond the home run line.

If there is a runner on first base and the batter hits a single, the runner who was on first base goes to second base.

If there is a runner on first base and the batter hits a double, the runner moves up to third base.

If there is a runner on first base and the batter hits a triple or a home run, the runner scores.

If there is a runner on second or third base and the hitter hits safely to any part of the diamond, the runner scores.

If the Reds are winning 6-4 and the Blues are batting, the Blues can score only 6 runs in that inning until they must stop. If the Reds are winning 6-4 and they are batting, they can score only 4 runs before they must stop. No team can go ahead by more than four runs if the are behind. Also, no team can score more than four runs if they go into an inning leading the other team.

The only exception is the last inning of the game. That is an open inning where a team can score as many runs as they want before three outs are recorded.

If Jake is in the outfield and a ball is hit into a tree or off of a building, Jake can run and catch the ball before it hits the ground so that the batter is out. This rule does not apply if the ball hits the ground, a vehicle, or an object beyond the homerun line.

The catcher, who is really a part of the hitters team, does not have to catch pop ups that his teammate, the batter, may hit. It is up to the pitcher to run in and catch those pop ups.

No bunting is allowed. The "runner’s can not "tag up" on fly balls that are caught in the outfield.

Games last 5 innings unless tied. In the event of a tie game after 5 innings of play team play as many extra innings as necessary to decide the game unless there is a time rule that doesn’t permit the game to be decided.

Bats and balls are purchases with league fees.

Teams must provide their own gloves and jerseys if desired. Teams can also provide their own bats if they want but, bats must be made of wood 9any kind) and must not be longer than 30".

Any and all tennis balls are fine to use in drivewayball.
